Scientific rationale

The prevalence of tumors is generally increased in relation to the ageing of the population and without the adoption of decisive actions, it is estimated that the lives lost for this disease will increase up to 24% by 2035.
Il tumore del colon-retto è una delle neoplasie più diffuse al mondo, con un’incidenza e una mortalità significative anche nella popolazione italiana (solo nel 2023 sono stati diagnosticati 50.500 nuovi casi) ma il dato più preoccupante è l’aumento mondiale di incidenza nei più giovani (1 su 10 in soggetti <50aa ed anche giovanissimi).

This evidences the importance of reflecting on this disease also for age groups traditionally considered at a low risk for which in this historical era in which we witness a daily technological evolution and therefore diagnostic/operative, the fight against tumors, and in particular that of the rectum colon, represents as never before a challenge for all.
Early prevention/diagnosis plays a decisive role and falls within the Essential Levels of Assistance (LEA), essential performance that must be guaranteed to all citizens, but a lot must be worked especially to spread culture and awareness about the adoption of healthy lifestyles and the reduction of individual risk factors.

Cultural and social reflections and challenges arise as conditions such as obesity, overweight, alcohol and smoke consumption are recognised as risk determinants for other modifiable. For this reason, it is essential to promote awareness-raising and empowerment programmes aimed at all citizens and especially young people.
At the same time, it is also important to know its family history since about 20% of the colon-rect cancer cases in subjects under the age of 50 have a genetic familiarity or predisposition, which increases the risk.

Protagonist is therefore always the citizen as the recipient of adequate information process and whose satisfaction of need for health-care implies, however, a synergistic collaboration between various health professionals who interact by applying specific management standards for each individual competence for the offer of a prevention path that can be effective and supportive.

The project "IN(form)AZIONE", which aims to support locally the National Campaign for the Prevention of Rect Colon Tumour, in addition to the scientific session to which citizens who wished can participate, provides an innovative session dedicated to them.
