Scientific rationale

The oncological pathology of the oral cable involves the region of the mouth, including the lips, the tongue, the palate, the retromolar trigon, the gums, the cheeks and the floor of the mouth. The most frequent isotype is represented by squamo-cellular carcinoma and early diagnosis is the prerogative of clinical evaluation and can have a significant impact on the quality of life and prognosis of the patient. The role of imaging diagnostics integrates the objective examination, in particular in assessing the extent of disease in deep planes with particular reference to the involvement of critical structures for the correct staging of disease and the choice of the most appropriate treatment.
The diagnostics of oral cavity tumors therefore requires a multidisciplinary approach that involves, in addition to the radiologist, other specialist figures (otolaryngologist surgeon, radiotherapist, oncologist, nuclear doctor, anatomical-pathologist). The event will be divided into a theoretical part, placing the Radiologist at the center of a confrontation with other specialists (otolaryngologist surgeon, radiotherapist, oncologist, nuclear doctor) emphasizing the importance of the multidisciplinary approach in managing this pathology and in a practical part with the interactive discussion of emblematic clinical cases, presented by young radiologists. Particular attention will be paid to the correct use of the different imaging techniques and their referral to provide adequate information on the stage of disease, favoring the correct management of the therapeutic process.
