The biological reference values in the age of precision medicine: future criticalities and perspectives (PAVE08/26)

Scientific rationale

The course aims to deepen the role of Biologic Reference Values (VRB) in the field of Precision Medicine, promoting an approach to human biomonitoring oriented to an increasingly targeted prevention of individual characteristics and specific populations.

Through an interdisciplinary comparison, the scientific and application criteria for the use of VRBs will be analyzed in the interpretation of the results of biomonitoring, taking into account the individual characteristics, sources and methods of exposure and variability in the kinetics of xenobiotics. VRB's contribution to risk assessment and management, with particular reference to clinical toxicology, metal biomonitoring, new indicators of exposure to organic compounds and carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic agents for reproduction (CMR).

The course also aims to encourage reflection on the role of doctors of work and other actors of prevention in the application of a precision approach, highlighting critical issues, opportunities and future prospects for health protection in workplaces and increasingly personalised living.
