Scientific rationale

The availability of anti-CD20 therapies has significantly modified the therapeutic approach to multiple sclerosis, extending the possibility of early intervention in patients with active disease, in native patients and in subjects with unfavorable prognostic profiles. In this scenario, ocrelizumab represents one of the central therapeutic options in the anti-CD20 landscape, with a consolidated role in the management of recurrent and progressive disease and with new perspectives related to the evolution of mode of administration. The progressive shift towards more precocious and personalised therapeutic strategies, however, requires a shared reflection on different aspects: the correct positioning of anti-CD20 along the disease continuum, pharmaceutical and clinical differences between available molecules, long-term safety management, immunological and clinical monitoring, planning in specific situations such as pregnancy, therapeutic switches and patients with long duration of disease. The improvement group was born with the aim of encouraging a comparison between experts, integrating scientific evidence, real-world experience and discussion of clinical cases.
