SCREENING OF POLMONE TOURS: Challenges, opportunities and organizational models

Scientific rationale

Lung cancer is the main cause of cancer mortality worldwide, especially because of the diagnosis in advanced stages. Low-dose computerized tomography (LDCT) screening in high-risk subjects has proven to reduce specific mortality, favouring early diagnosis.

The implementation of effective programs requires appropriate selection criteria, standardized diagnostic-therapeutic paths, smoking cessation strategies and cost-effective evaluations. Biomarkers, artificial intelligence and risk stratification models also offer new opportunities to improve diagnostic accuracy and appropriate screening.

In view of the imminent start of the screening campaign in the Lombardy Region, the event aims to update on the latest scientific evidence and promote comparison of organizational models for the identification of suitable subjects, promoting the collaboration between specialists, researchers and health decision makers for an effective and equitable implementation of the secondary prevention program.
