Violence in current society – Health and gender dimensions

Violence is a major public health issue, with important consequences on the physical, psychological and social health of people involved and significant relapses on the organization of health services. The conference, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November), proposes an integrated approach to the phenomenon, addressing two closely connected areas: gender violence and aggression against health workers.

In relation to gender violence, the General Medicine Doctor and Emergency Medicine Doctor play a key role in early identification of situations of violence, in the reception of victims, in correct documentation and in the activation of the territorial network and dedicated welfare paths. At the same time, verbal and physical aggressions against health personnel, also recognized by Law 14 August 2020, n. 113, represent a criticality that involves not only the ER, but also the contexts of proximity and end-of-life, such as home palliative care and hospice.

The event aims to deepen tools and strategies to recognize, manage and prevent the different forms of violence, through the development of clinical, relational and organizational skills, with particular attention to communication in situations at risk, the reporting of episodes and the protection of victims and the welfare of operators. The multi-professional comparison between general medicine, emergency-emergency, palliative care and psychology, with the involvement of territorial associations, aims to promote an integrated network of skills and interventions. The exhibition MaugeriInArte completes the path of the day, offering through artistic language a further opportunity to reflect and raise awareness on the subject of violence.
